Aloha Paul & Monica Schaal

For those die-hard Royals fans, you may recognize the name Paul Schaal.  He was an awesome Royals player from 1969-1974.

Since being a pro baseball player, he has become a talented Chiropractor here in Kansas City.  He and his wife recently decided to move on and retire to the beautiful state of Hawaii.  I was invited to his going away party last week and shot some pictures of his friends saying goodbye.

They will be missed…and envied.  It is Hawaii after all!

Shooting Independence Square with Sarah Rimel

When I’m not having fun shooting portraits for clients…I’m having fun shooting things and places for myself.  Recently I had the chance to hang out with my good friend and talented Kansas City photographer, Sarah Rimel.  We had lunch at one of the most delicious restaurants I’ve had the pleasure of visiting, Cafe Verona, and then off to explore the Historic Independence square.  It was a very relaxing day.

Wiiiinnnnndddddyyyyyy

Sarah pointed out that there was actually an address of 215 and a half.  Interesting.

We like to shoot each other.

Hello puddle.

I pretty much walked up to this chair and said “hey…um…I saw you from across the room…wanna come over to my place?”  hahaha  Seriously, it was love at first sight.  I really really want this chair.

Have you ever imagined doing something in your head and though “yea…I can totally do that…” …and then realize, “um…nope.  I can’t.”  Well…I saw this sign…and most people know I have a thing for signs…and thought it would make a neat picture with my friend if I could pose doing a hand stand next to her standing upright.  With our cameras set on self-timers, we set out to try and accomplish this craziness.  This was the first attempt…although it looks more like I’m trying out for a stripper club….(Sarah, you’re my first customer, hehe)

So when that didn’t work, Sarah offered to try and help me up.  But between my inability to kick my legs up high enough, and my drum sticks weighing a bit more than Sarah can raise on her own…it was a fail.

We end up settling for a frontward/backward pose instead. hahahahahahahaha  It was worth a try if for nothing else than laughing really hard and entertaining the people passing by.

It was a very good day.  Can’t wait for the next time.

Lacey & Kelly + Alabama + Beach = Sandy Goodness

For months and months Lacey, Velmina (her mom/my mom-in-law), and I have been planning and planning and planning some more for this beautiful beach wedding….and all the effort finally paid off.  It was a huge success.  The day might have been hot, but the Bride was hotter!  (I know…cheesy) 🙂

Matt is the oldest big brother, so instead of shooting the wedding with me, his part was a bit more sentimental.  He played his guitar in combo with Judd (a friend of the family) and his drum.  Honestly, I was impressed beyond words.  They both did a fantastic job…a professional team effort.  I’m so proud of my honey. 🙂

And I even got a sentimental role as well.  I got to help with the hair and makeup.  Now..to some, this doesn’t seem like such a big deal.  To me, it meant the world.  These two women won’t even let me help with cooking or dishes…so to help with hair and make-up…seriously…I’m tearing up right now.  Let’s just say I feel special. :))))

There was some down time for Lacey while I ventured off to shoot her husband-to-be (Kelly)…and when I got back, I found her watching ghost busters (at least that’s what I think was on).

This was a special surprise to Lacey on the wedding day.  Her boss had bought her a very nice pearl necklace and earrings to match and gave them to Velmina to surprise her right before the ceremony.  So pretty.

Shirt…check.  Rolled up pants…check.  Flip flops…check.  Sunglasses…check.  Oh, how easy it must be for a guy.  That’s all it takes for guys to get ready.  Not fair, I say.

We had played around with the idea of doing pictures before the ceremony, but at the last minute I actually went against my usual preference and decided it would be better to keep the separate.  It was soooooo hot and muggy, I didn’t want to get them all sweaty and nasty (too much anyway) before they saw each other.  But I still wanted to get them in the same shot before hand…thus the different floors.

I don’t remember how we got Kelly to do this but he started doing pushups on the walk way….

So then I say…”What about one handed….” hahahaha

Wild man… 🙂

Hunky husband-to-be.  Rrrraaarrrr

And Lacey was oh-so-gorgeous.  Truly amazing to have known her from a small child to watching her get married.  She like my own sister…and friend.  A very special day for me to witness.

“I caught a big one!!!” hehehehe

I do not recall what this was about, but thought it was so funny when I was going through the pictures later.  Had to share.

Violator

What do you think…happy Groom, or what?!  🙂

While Matt was busy playing the tunes…Lacey’s other brothers, Aaron & Mark, walked her down the isle.  So sweet.

Did I mention I love beach weddings?

Something very inappropriate was said…and thus the super awesome laughing.  I LOVE IT!

This was one perfect wedding day.  Congrats to Lacey & Kelly!  Best wishes!

BP Oil Spill reaches the Alabama shores :(

A couple weekends ago, we traveled to Gulf Shores, AL to attend and shoot a beach wedding.  Matt’s little sister (Lacey) was getting married on the beautiful white sands…well, sort of.  We had heard rumors a couple weeks before heading down that the oil spill might have made it to those shores, but I was hoping not.  When we arrived at the condos, there were warnings posted everywhere …again, I thought maybe this was an over precaution.  Nope.  The oil spill had made it’s way full force to the pretty Alabama shores.  It was quite heartbreaking to see.

My tax man, Mike!

This is Mike.

Every April (tax season) I visit Mike looking like this…

And then leave his office looking like this…

I HEART MIKE sooooo much.  He makes the ugly behind-the-scenes of owning a business so much prettier.

Mike had called me a couple weeks ago to tell me he is finally ready for a good headshot.  We wanted to get some better business cards made up with a nice headshot…who better to help him out. :)))

….I couldn’t help myself either though…hey Mike “give me friendly professional”! hahahahahaha
